Membership - Who Can Be a Member of NCDF?

Anyone!   As a cooperative, Northcountry Cooperative Development Fund is owned and governed by its members.

Consumer, producer, or worker cooperatives become NCDF members by purchasing equity in NCDF, with the equity amount determined by the business's assets (see table below). A cooperative member may apply for a loan from the Fund for any business purpose, including capital improvement, equipment purchase or lease, inventory, working capital, and expansion or relocation. In order to borrow from or invest money in NCDF, a cooperative must be a member of the Fund.

Equity for housing co-ops is based on the number of units rather than asset value. The base amount is $10 per unit, with a minimum $150 and maximum of $3,000.

An individual becomes a member of NCDF by purchasing a $10 equity share in the Fund. Any individual member who wishes to "invest in cooperation" can do so by lending money to the Fund. Individuals may also borrow from the Fund in order to finance the purchase of a share in a cooperative, such as a housing or producer cooperative. Application

Over 100 cooperatives across 11 states of the upper Midwest (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, South Dakota and Montana) are currently members of NCDF.
