I’ve lost my license. How do I get a replacement?
Replacement licenses are available from KDFWR. You can get a
replacement request form from any License Agent or write to KDFWR (#1
Sportsman's Lane,
Frankfort, KY 40601, Attention to License Annex) to request a replacement. You must
include the $5.00 replacement fee with your request. If you want to hunt or fish before the
replacement arrives, you can buy a second license, and request a refund. You must provide
KDFWR with the license number from this second license.
Do I have to have a hunter safety card to buy a license?
All hunters born on or after January 1, 1975, must have completed a
hunter education course and carry a course completion card while hunting,
however you do not need to show your hunter safety card in order to buy a
license.
Do I need a license if I’m just helping my kids fish or hunt?
State law requires persons assisting others in hunting or fishing to
be licensed. An exception is that adults accompanying deer hunters under 16 do
not need a license or deer permit as long as the adult does not carry a firearm or archery
equipment.
How does someone get a disability authorization card?

What about a 15-year-old who buys a Jr. license -- will he have to
replace it when he turns 16?
No. As long as he is 15 when he buys it, the Jr. License is valid
for the entire license year.
What happened to the pretty waterfowl stamps? Can I still
get a stamp?
KDFWR will continue to print waterfowl stamps for
collectors. The cost of these stamps are the face value of the permit. However, these
stamps are no longer valid for waterfowl hunting. Waterfowl hunters must purchase their permits through a License Agent.
What about the federal duck stamp?
These stamps are not issued by KDFWR or its agents. They are
available at Post Offices, and can be
carried separately.
Why can’t I buy my commercial license through a
license agent or on-line?
Most of the licenses sold only by KDFWR have special conditions for
issue. In many cases, a commercial license is not renewed unless the holder submits
required reports. These special requirements mean that each application must be checked,
and there’s no way to do this through KDSS. In the future, more licenses may be
available through this system.
