STATEMENT BY SECRETARY DON EVANS
ON PRESIDENT BUSH’S ECONOMIC GROWTH PACKAGE

President Bush’s plan for economic growth is exactly what the American economy needs, precisely when the economy needs it.

The President’s plan provides much-needed tax relief to American taxpayers. It provides critical help to those Americans who are without jobs while promoting new investment in our economy and encouraging additional consumer spending. The plan will create more than 2 million new jobs, and gives American families the certainty they need to plan for their financial future, including savings or education for their children.

This economy is moving in the right direction, however that’s not good enough for President Bush. I hope that Congress will act quickly to pass this plan and ensure the long-term strength of the American economy.
