Commerce Deputy Secretary Hosts Veteran Business Expo

Furthers President’s Small Business Agenda and Highlights Importance of Veterans To Our Nation and Economy

In recognition of Veterans Day, U.S. Commerce Deputy Secretary Sam Bodman today hosted the Veteran Business Expo at the U.S. Commerce Department where veteran-owned small business firms showcased their products and/or services. The expo both honored the contributions by veterans to our nation and our economy and furthered the President’s Small Business Agenda in ensuring full and open competition to government contracts by small businesses that can supply the government’s needs.

Prior to the expo, Deputy Secretary Bodman held a meeting with CEOs and senior executives of several veteran and service disabled veteran-owned small businesses and large corporations about the importance small business has to our economy and how the federal government can work with the private sector in helping entrepreneurs flourish.

“Veteran business owners are our nation’s heroes and have earned an opportunity to do business with the federal government,” said Bodman. “Small businesses contribute significantly towards driving innovation and creating jobs, and I am pleased to further the President’s commitment to create fair opportunities for this key sector of our economy.”

The Veteran Business Expo offered an opportunity to highlight Commerce’s support for veteran-owned small firms. Program managers, acquisition officials and bureau heads were on hand to network with the firms and provide guidance in acquiring contracting opportunities.

The exhibitors featured the latest in systems engineering & analysis, security, CRM, workflow & document management, modeling & simulation, computer hardware & software, enterprise architecture, e-commerce, LAN/WAN, and business process re-engineering.

Participating companies included Advanced Resource Technologies, Alexandria, Va.; HeiTech Services, Inc., Lanham, Md.; MTS Technologies, Arlington, Va.; Rigid Systems, Columbia, Md.; SSB, Inc., Fairfax, Va.; Technatomy Corporation, McLean, Va.; Thomas & Herbert Consulting, LLC, Silver Spring, Md.; and V-Tech Solutions, Inc., Washington, D.C.

The expo was hosted by the Department of Commerce’s Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization and the Office of the Chief Information Office and was sponsored by the Federal Business Council.
