Signing Class


Frank Ricco commits to play for the Tigers


Marshalltown Community College baseball has gotten a commitment from Frank Rico, a 5’8, 170 pound infielder from Chicago, Illinois. Frank is the fourth player to commit to Marshalltown for the 2007 – 2008 season. Ricco will be an asset in the infield and at the plate. He has got a quick bat and a fluid swing. “Frank will be an all around player for us. He can really do anything and he is a hard nose player that is willing to work. He will make the entire team better.” Coach Grife said. “He is a great kid to watch play and we know he will give us all he’s got every time he steps on the field.” Ricco joins Edmon, Armstrong and Meacham in the 2007 – 2008 recruiting class.


Harlan High Senior, Ronnie Chester Commits to Marshalltown

The Marshalltown Tigers’ coaching staff is proud to announce the commitment of a third Harlan High School athlete. Ronnie Chester, a 5’9, 160 pound outfielder from Chicago, Illinois committed to the Tigers Tuesday, December 12. He joins Elliot Armstrong and Brendon Edmon who are also from Harlan High School. Ronnie is an exceptional athlete and will add speed to an already fast lineup for the 2007 – 2008 season. Ronnie is also an exceptional student in the classroom with a 3.9 High School GPA. Ronnie is also ranked as one of the fastest baseball players in the nation currently. “Ronnie’s speed and ability to handle the bat is the reason we really needed him.” Coach Grife had to say. “These three commitments from Harlan have been a huge success for us and we feel they will play a vital role in our success next year.” Chester joins Edmon, Armstrong, Meacham and Ricco in the 2007 – 2008 recruiting class.


Brendon Edmon Commits to Marshalltown

The Tigers’ baseball coaching staff is pleased to announce the commitment of LHP/INF Brendon Edmon, a 6’2, 210 pound player from Harlan High School in Chicago, IL. Brendon will add depth to the pitching staff and also a left handed bat in the middle of the line-up. “Working with our hitting coaches, Brendon will develop some real power for us over the next two years.” Coach Rich Grife added. Brendon is the first commitment for the 2007 – 2008 season.

Elliot Armstrong Adds Speed to the Tigers’ 2007 -2008 Roster

Elliot Armstrong, a 5’9, 165 pound middle infielder from Harlan High School in Chicago, IL, committed to play for the Tigers on Tuesday, November 28th. Elliot will be an immediate contributor for Marshalltown and will provide them with speed in the infield and on the base paths. Elliot will bring a leadoff approach to the lineup with his hitting ability as well. Coach Grife added, “Elliot has a great attitude and will be successful in whatever he does, not just baseball.” Elliot is the second commitment to the 2007 – 2008 recruiting class. Elliot Armstrong and Brendon Edmon are both from Harlan High School in Chicago. Last year Harlan had a record of 29 – 7. We wish Harlan High School and these two the best of luck for their senior baseball season.


Sioux City, IA Native, Billy Meacham Commits to Tigers

The Tigers’ coaching staff is proud to announce the commitment of another Sioux City native. With two major impact players from Sioux City graduating in May (Kyle Lafrenz and Trenton Lee), the need for a big bat was filled Thursday, November 30th. Billy Meacham, a 6’0, 210 pound infielder will add power and athleticism to the 2007 – 2008 squad. A left handed hitter, Billy can play first base, second base or third. “He has the athleticism to play anywhere in the infield, add to that his ability to handle the bat and you can bet he’ll be an immediate impact for our program.” Jeff Lamb, the infield coach noted. “Coach Grife added, “He creates such leverage with his swing that it is a joy just to watch him take batting practice. Billy is the third commitment to the 2007 – 2008 recruiting class. Billy, along with Elliot and Brendon will bring an exciting 2007 – 2008 season.



MCC Freshman Baseball Players commit to Summer Leagues

MARSHALLTOWN – Eight Tiger baseball players will be gaining additional experience when they play college summer league ball. There are a number of college summer league opportunities that the Marshalltown Community College freshmen will be taking advantage of during summer break.

Mike Lynch of Brockville, Canada, LHP, will play in the MINK League for the Chillicothe Mudcats in Chillicothe, MO.

Kyle Lafrenz of Sioux City, Catcher, will play in the MINK League for the Beatrice Bruins in Beatrice, NE.

Mike Rector of Knoxville, 3B, will play in the Collegiate Baseball of the West for the Seaside Wildcats in Portland, OR. Mike has also been invited to play in the USA Athletes InternationalAruba Friendship Series for 10 days this summer.

Lucas Stelter, Eau Claire, WI, 1B/C, will play in the Collegiate Baseball of the West for the Seaside Wildcats in Portland, OR.

Nate Larson, Eau Claire, WI, RHP, will play in the Collegiate Baseball of the West for the Seaside Wildcats in Portland, OR.

Jared Heghahl, Howard, SD, RHP, will play in the Sandlott Baseball League for the Nashville Navigators, in Nashville, TN.

Jacob Phipps, LeGrand, IA, RHP, will play in the Sandlott Baseball League for the Nashville Navigators in Nashville, TN.

Trenton Lee, Sioux City, IA, OF, will play in the Sandlott Baseball League for the Nashville Navigators in Nashville, TN.
