$6.1 million for athletic endowment announced at Gator Gala

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Nearly 1,100 members of the Gator Nation celebrated 100 years of Florida football tonight at the Gator Gala, where it was announced that $6.1 million has been raised for the UF Athletic Endowment Fund from proceeds of the gala and other projects surrounding the centennial celebration.

Florida boy is state’s first to get new mechanical heart device designed for children

GAINESVILLE, Fla. - A gravely ill 9-year-old Florida boy awaiting a heart transplant is the first in the state to receive the Berlin Heart, a mechanical heart device sized specifically for children.

New UF radio series gives gardeners Florida-friendly information

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Floridians with a growing passion for gardening and home horticulture will soon have a new source of help. Starting Monday, Oct. 2, University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences and public radio stations WUFT/WJUF will launch a new radio series, “Gardening in a Minute,” providing information from experts with UF’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences.

With spinach, it may be what’s on the inside that counts

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — As investigators narrow the search for the source of E. coli-tainted spinach to just a few farms in three California counties, researchers suggest it may be just as important to examine how the plants acquired and carried the bacteria as it is to find the original point of contamination.

Working Stress

Research suggests that late hours and red tape hurt your job performance more than you or your boss realize. University of Florida researchers tested the effects of different types of stress on employees across various occupations. They found challenge stressors had a direct positive impact by motivating workers. But researcher Nathan Podsakoff says hindrance stressors, like red tape and job insecurity, have a big negative impact on motivation and performance.
