Sue K. Young, wife of UF President Charles E. Young, passes away

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Sue K. Young, wife of University of Florida President Charles Young, died today (9/28) at the couple’s home in Thousand Oaks, Calif., after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. She was 69.

Health-related grants drive record research funding at UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida’s aggressive pursuit of health-related grants helped generate a record $379.5 million in research funding during fiscal year 2000-2001, up 11.8 percent from the previous year, figures released today show.

UF president names Ed Poppell vice president for administrative affairs

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida President Charles E. Young Wednesday named Ed Poppell as permanent vice president for administrative affairs, the university’s chief fiscal and business officer. The appointment is effective June 1.

Second phase of livable-wage program for UF employees begins June 1

Shands HealthCare appoints new CEO

Sixth president of University of Florida, Stephen C. O’connell, dies

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Stephen Cornelius O’Connell, the sixth president of the University of Florida from 1967-73, died Friday at his home in Tallahassee. He was 85.

UF Selects Univ. Of Mich. Department Chairman As New Engineering Dean

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Pramod P. Khargonekar, Claude E. Shannon professor and chairman of the department of electrical engineering and computer science at the University of Michigan, has been selected as the new dean of the University of Florida College of Engineering, following a national search. An alumnus of the University of Florida, he will assume his new duties July 1.

UF’s Capital Campaign Ends With Goal-Breaking $850 Million Total
