University To Confer 300,000th Degree During Commencement Saturday

GAINESVILLE — As the fall semester draws to a close and University of Florida students prepare for commencement ceremonies on Saturday, the university prepares for a historic moment as well. UF will confer its 300,000th degree during this semester’s commencement ceremonies.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Awards $10.4 Million Grant To Create New Center For The Study Of Gene Therapy And Diabetes At UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Armed with a $10.4 million grant from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, University of Florida researchers announced today (12/13) they will launch a new center devoted to the study of gene therapy to fight diabetes and its complications.

Flotte Named Director Of UF Genetics Institute

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Dr. Terence R. Flotte has been named director of the University of Florida Genetics Institute, a position he has held in an interim capacity for nearly two years, Provost David Colburn announced today. The appointment is effective immediately.

Farris and Julia Bryant Florida History Preservation Fund Endowment Will Preserve Florida History And Culture

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Florida’s 34th Governor, C. Farris Bryant, is contributing $300,000 to endow The Farris and Julia Bryant Florida History Preservation Fund at the George A. Smathers Libraries of the University of Florida. The gift is eligible for available matching state funds of 50 percent, bringing the total amount of the endowment to $450,000.

UF Names Director For Government Relations

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — The University of Florida today announced the appointment of Marion Hoffmann as director for government relations. Hoffmann will be responsible for leading and coordinating the efforts of the university’s lobbying team and will report directly to President Charles Young and Provost David Colburn.

David Colburn Named University’s Permanent Provost

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — University of Florida Interim President Charles E. Young has announced the appointment of David Colburn to serve as provost and vice president for academic affairs effective immediately. Colburn has served as interim provost since November.
