Becoming a pharmacist

Since 2000, students nationwide seeking eventual licensure as pharmacists must earn a doctor of pharmacy (PharmD) degree. Visit the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy site for more information on the education requirements for pharmacists.

"Prepharmacy" is the designation given to the period of study before a student's admission to a PharmD or professional program at The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy. To be eligible for admission to the PharmD program, you must complete required prepharmacy coursework with a competitve GPA.

Some students can complete these required units in two to three years. Candidates for the doctor of pharmacy program are selected on a competitive basis. Students admitted to the UA College of Pharmacy spend four years completing the PharmD program.
