The Department of State Lands is the administrative agency of the State Land Board.

Mission Statement
 
The mission of the Department of State Lands is to ensure a legacy for Oregonians and their public schools through sound stewardship of lands, wetlands, waterways, unclaimed property, estates and the Common School Fund.

The Director’s Office oversees administrative responsibilities for the State Land Board and directs the operations of DSL, under the jurisdiction of the board.   
Responsibilities include providing overall leadership to DSL staff, making recommendations to the Land Board and Legislature, developing and approving policies and plans, and overseeing budget, grants and contracts. 
 
The director serves as chair of the South Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (SSNERR) Management Commission, as a member of the Economic Revitalization Team, Department of Administrative Services and Natural Resources Cabinets, and serves on the Ocean Policy Advisory Council as a non-voting member.
 
The director supervises eight staff members including the human resources manager and assistant, communications manager, three assistant directors (Wetland and Waterways Conservation Division, Land Management Division and Finance and Administration Division), SSNERR manager and an executive assistant.
 
The human resources manager is responsible for several program areas including affirmative action, records administration, pay and classification, recruitment and retention, labor relations, policy development, training and organizational development.
 
The communications manager is responsible for all media relations, Web site content, public outreach and agency communications materials.
