College of Pharmacy Hires a New Faculty Member to Coordinate the Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences

Rebekah JackowskiIn hiring Rebekah Jackowski, the College is actually welcoming back a great faculty member from the recent past. Rebekah will bring some great experiences to this newly created position. After graduating from the University of Michigan with her PharmD in 2006 and completing a Community Pharmacy Practice Residency at the University of Iowa/Osterhaus Pharmacy, she accepted a shared faculty position at The University of Arizona College of Pharmacy and Bashas’ United Drug. Her role was to develop patient care programs in the pharmacy. During that time, Rebekah worked extensively with seniors and Medicare Part D. In 2006, she used that experience to help create the Medication Management Center (MMC) at the College of Pharmacy. At the MMC, Rebekah precepted third and fourth year pharmacy students, as well as managed 21 student pre-pharmacy and pharmacy interns. She was then recruited by a company to help lead medication therapy management initiatives nationally. While that position allowed her network nationally with Colleges of Pharmacies and state associations, she missed Tucson, and we were lucky enough to get her back.

Rebekah will lead our Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs). New ACPE guidelines now require that 5% of the curriculum be dedicated to experiences allowing first through third year students direct patient care. This is no small task since the College currently relies on preceptors to facilitate 25% of curriculum in the fourth year rotations. So, we are again going to be asking for your help. Many of you are already participating in this years IPPE pilot course. A link to the objectives of that course is attached (community experiences / institutional experiences / shadowing). This is definitely a "work in progress" and the objectives are flexible. We will use your feedback throughout the semester as we develop the final new curriculum that will take effect next Fall for the Class of 2013.

If you would like to contact Rebekah, you can reach her at 520-626-0499.

Questions about the website, EMS, or rotations in general?

Please feel free to contact Kevin, Jamie, Rebecca, Rebekah, or Lynda if you ever have questions about locating a topic on our Web site, accessing or using our electronic system, or rotations. We are here to help you.

Rotation Web site
Every preceptor and student has his or her own unique log-in that grants access to rotation lists, important forms (evaluations, intern hours, professional leave requests, etc.) and contact information. Other than the "Intern Hours Report," which still requires signatures and hard copies be sent to the Office of Experiential Education, this entire process is Web-based.

To access the site, go here.
