Rebuild America
The Oregon Department of Energy leads Rebuild America in Oregon. Rebuild America is a national network of partnerships that save money by saving energy and other resources. The
voluntary partnerships are made up of municipalities, state agencies, schools, universities, Native American tribes, nonprofit organizations and businesses. They choose the best ways to improve the energy efficiency of their buildings.

Rebuild America is a program of the U.S. Department of Energy. The department supports the partnerships by funding
state program representatives and providing technical tools and assistance.

The Department of Energy helps partnerships reach their savings goals by identifying and providing resources, including:
  • energy audits
  • design assistance
  • training
  • low-interest loans for energy-saving projects
  • tax credits for energy-saving projects

We also identify services and incentives available from local utilities and others.

Rebuild Activities in Oregon

The League of Oregon Cities is helping small communities facing water shortages through the Save Water and Energy Education Program. The education campaign raises awareness of the need for water and energy conservation, the economic and environmental benefits, water- and energy-saving equipment and practices, and incentives to help pay for them. The cities of Lafayette and Wilsonville are testing the program for use by communities statewide. Other participants include the Department of Energy, Portland General Electric, U.S. Department of Energy, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance, manufacturers and retailers.

Oregon Parks and Recreation is reducing costs of operating state parks. The Department of Energy is  providing design assistance for new and remodeled park buildings to reduce energy and water use. We also are helping develop educational materials for park users, providing technical assistance for the department’s resource conservation management program, and assessing the potential for alternative-fuel vehicles and renewable energy resources at
state parks.

Oregon State University is reducing operating costs for its buildings. The Department of Energy helped the university solve boiler problems, provided energy and water audits, and helped develop a resource accounting database. We continue to provide technical assistance for energy projects and design assistance for new construction and major remodels.

The Portland Partners for Energy Efficiency saved the city more than $5 million a year in energy bills. Tax credits and low-interest loans from the Oregon Department of Energy helped the city achieve these savings.
