The articles and features published on this site undergo a rigorous editorial process that includes extensive review by medical professionals. This site, however, is not intended to provide medical care. For specific medical advice, diagnoses, and treatment, consult your doctor. All information on this site is for educational purposes only.

How KidsHealth Content Is Created and Updated

The articles, animations, and features found on this site are created by the physicians, writers, editors, and graphic designers of the Nemours Foundation's Center for Children's Health Media. Content on this site goes through a rigorous 18-step process. The goal is to make sure that all information is accurate, balanced, current, and family friendly.

Physicians and other health experts review all content before it's published on KidsHealth. All content is rereviewed on a regular basis (about every 1 to 3 years, or more frequently if needed). You can find the most recent review date and the name(s) of the expert reviewer(s) at the end of each article.

How Corrections and Improvements Are Made

Our aim is to ensure that KidsHealth content is as accurate and as clear as possible. As such, the KidsHealth editorial staff reviews all comments from readers about the articles on this site, including suggestions for possible improvements and corrections. After editorial review, changes that improve clarity and/or accuracy are made as promptly as possible.

KidsHealth Content Is Inclusive

The KidsHealth editorial staff makes every effort to be as neutral as possible with regard to sex, race, color, religion, and age. Within the articles, the site takes turns referring to infants, children, and teens as "he" or "she." Remember that even if an article says he or she, it is referring to male and female infants, children, and teens, unless otherwise specified.

How KidsHealth Medical Reviewers Are Selected

Articles and features on this site are reviewed by the physicians of KidsHealth - and also by members of the KidsHealth Panel of Expert Reviewers. The physicians and other clinical experts on this panel have special interest in and experience with the particular subject area. The senior editorial team at KidsHealth (editor-in-chief and chief medical editor) reviews the credentials of all panel members.

Panel members who may have a conflict of interest due to their hospital or workplace affiliation or due to another interest, professional or personal, in reviewing a given article or feature are not permitted to review such content.

How Related Resources Are Selected

Throughout the 18-step editorial process, the editors at KidsHealth research various possible resources and review them to determine that they offer high-quality information that may be of interest to you. Although every effort is made to verify that the information these related resources (websites, organizations, books, telephone numbers, and videos) provide is up-to-date and accurate, the information tends to change and not all of it was necessarily reviewed by KidsHealth. These resources are provided solely as a convenience to you and are not an endorsement by The Nemours Foundation or KidsHealth Educational Partners.
