College of Pharmacy Graduate Programs (MS/PhD)
The graduate programs in the College of Pharmacy are directed at training students in the widely diverse fields of pharmaceutical sciences.
The college promotes research and training in the pharmaceutical sciences ranging from "molecule to man." Our graduate programs train scientists to identify, synthesize and develop drugs that will benefit mankind as well as understanding the molecular, cellular and organismal mechanisms of action of these and other drugs. Our goal is to produce the best trained and competent scientists in the various aspects of pharmaceutical sciences.
The College of Pharmacy awards master of science (MS) and doctor of philosophy (PhD) degrees in two graduate degree programs:
Pharmaceutical Sciences (tracking in four different areas):
- Pharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics (Formulation & delivery of drugs)
- Medicinal and Natural Products Chemistry (Discovery and design of new drugs)
- Pharmaceutical Economics, Policy and Outcomes (Optimizing outcomes for the use of drugs)
- Clinical Research
Pharmacology and Toxicology
The graduate training programs of the College of Pharmacy emphasize the following principles:
- Formulation and optimal delivery of drugs is critical for their proper use.
- All drugs and chemicals have toxic effects or side effects that must be investigated to correct or minimize their effects.
- The use of pharmaceuticals also must be optimally employed relative to their cost benefit and regulations of their use.
