Families: Nebraska's Future

Programs are available throughout Nebraska to help meet the needs of divorcing families and children and meet the requirements of the New Parent Act as amended by LB 554 in 2007.

Resources for Divorcing Families

Each year, over 1500 children under the age of 18 are affected by divorce in Lancaster County. Research indicates that for many of these children, separation or divorce may leave overwhelming feelings of insecurity, guilt, shame, loneliness and failure. Often, these feelings stay with the child for a lifetime--affecting not only their self-esteem, but also their ability to cope, and handle conflict, peer pressure and anger.
