SECRETARY EVANS STATEMENT ON FOURTH QUARTER GDP
Secretary Evans Released Today The Following
Statement After The Commerce Department’s Release of GDP Showed
that the Economy Grew at 4.1 percent in Fourth Quarter
“Today’s
strong growth numbers suggest that conventional economic measures
may not be sufficiently capturing the full strength of our recovery.
The continued brisk purchases of equipment and software signal rising
business confidence and jobs growth because businesses typically
decide to hire workers at the same time that they boost capital
spending. The strongest export growth in seven years shows a rise
in global economic activity. Although our economy continued expanding
briskly in the fourth quarter and gives every indication of a banner
year in 2004, President Bush will not be satisfied until this tax
relief-powered recovery creates jobs for every willing worker.”
