NOAA AWARDS $2.5 MILLION TO WISCONSIN
DEPARTMENT OF ADMINISTRATION

U.S. Commerce Secretary Don Evans while in Wisconsin touting jobs and economic growth took a break from his message and announced a $2.5 million grant to preserve the natural and historic resources of Wisconsin’s Great Lakes Coasts.

The grant will be given to the Wisconsin Department of Administration to implement a coastal zone management program. The program works cooperatively with state, local and tribal government agencies and non-profits in managing the ecological, economic and aesthetic assets of the Great Lakes and their coastal areas. Commerce’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) funded the grant.

“We are constantly working to improve the understanding of our environment and to strengthen local initiatives like Wisconsin’s Coastal Management Program,” said Evans. “This grant allows Wisconsin to manage their coastal resources while actively supporting efforts that reinforce NOAA’s and the Bush Administration’s commitment to the environment.”

NOAA is dedicated to enhancing economic security and national safety through the prediction and research of weather and climate-related events and providing environmental stewardship of our nation’s coastal and marine resources.
