STATEMENT BY COMMERCE SECRETARY DON EVANS ON NOMINATION OF NTIA ADMINISTRATOR

“I am pleased to join the White House today in announcing the intention to nominate Michael D. Gallagher as the Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Communications and Information and Administrator of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). As the Deputy Assistant Secretary for NTIA and former Deputy Chief of Staff and Counselor to the Secretary for Policy, Mike has demonstrated the management skills and policy background that will be critical to serving in this position. I am confident he will be an effective part of the management team and continue his efforts in bringing the benefits of new and exciting telecommunications technologies to American consumers.

I believe Mike’s vast experience in telecommunications policy will serve the Department well and I look forward to working with him on such critical issues as the deployment of broadband and management of our nation’s airwaves.”
