FOR
IMMEDIATE RELEASE Friday,
The mission will further the commitment made by President George W. Bush and Mexico President Vicente Fox to increase two-way trade, foster economic growth and develop and improve living standards in both countries by creating higher wages and more jobs. "I look forward to leading this trade mission. Mexico is one of the United States' most important friends and trading partners," said Evans. "Cross-border trade will strengthen the U.S. economy by creating jobs, opening more markets to American goods and services, and increasing choices and lowering costs for consumers." Evans and the delegation will arrive in Mexico City on June 17, 2002. Participants in the business development mission will include representatives from the information technology, telecommunications, energy, environmental, medical and manufacturing sectors. The business delegation will develop contacts within the Mexican government, as well as meet with potential business partners. On the trip, Evans will also highlight corporate citizenship and active involvement by U.S. businesses in the communities where they operate in the United States and abroad. Further information about the trade mission, including requests for applications, may be directed to the Office of Business Liaison, Room 5062, Department of Commerce, Washington, D.C. 20230 (tel: 202-482-1360; fax: 202-482-4054).
