Data Standards

The Nevada Invasive Plant GIS utilizes part of a system developed in the state of Montana which is fully documented in Mapping Noxious Weeds in Montana (pdf) by Diana Cooksey and Roger Sheley. NWAC has adopted the attributes collected for point, line and area types of weed infestations from the system. These attributes and the acceptable entries for each kind of record are explained below.

Point Records

  • Coordinates of the infestation

Latitude/Longitude – Decimal Degree* (DD.DDDDD, -DDD.DDDDD)

UTM Northing and Eastings – Zone 11

Compile on 7.5’, 1:24000 scale quadrangles.
