Reducing crop water use
 There are several things a crop producer can do to reduce the amount of water used to grow a crop. Bill Kranz, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension irrigation specialist, says some simple things are to check the components of your systems, make sure the sprinklers match the field situation and use ET gauges and soil water sensors to determine when to irrigate and how much water to apply. Kranz says producers can save several inches of water each year with these tools.
