"Come Grow With Us - Oregon Agriculture"
The Oregon Department of Agriculture is now an official partner with the Oregon 150 Project.

To mark the 150th birthday of our state, ODA is participating in a committee of volunteer agricultural business members. The committee has created an idea that should be fun and particularly meaningful to all Oregonians.

One hundred and fifty personal stories reflecting the past, present, and future of agriculture will be collected in written format. From the entire collection, several key stories will be featured in a video essay contest for 4-H and FFA students. Winning videos will be distributed on YouTube and the ODA Web site.

Both storytellers and students will be honored during the State Fair in 2009. ODA Director Katy Coba will be on hand to present certificates to the participants. Videos will run on continuous loop in a special pavilion at the fairgrounds during Ag Day. All stories will eventually be archived for use during the state's 2059 bicentennial activities, and used in the greater Oregon 150 Oregon Stories Project.

As part of the event, Oregon Ag in the Classroom Foundation will run its annual calendar art contest for grade school students, with a special focus on the state's sesquicentennial celebration. Children participating in the calendar project will be invited to attend the ODA OR 150 presentation event and see their artwork displayed at the State Fair.

Members of the ODA 150 committee include:
  • Geoff Horning, Executive Director, Agri-Business Council
  • Tami Kerr, Executive Director, Oregon Ag in the Classroom Foundation
  • Glenn & Judith Mason, Program Managers of Cultural Images and the Oregon Century Farm & Ranch Program
  • Anne Marie Moss, Communications Director, Oregon Farm Bureau Federation
  • Dave Koellermeier, Director, Oregon State Fair
  • Bruce Pokarney, Director of Communications, ODA
  • Kristyn Anderson, Oregon Commodity Commission Program Manager, ODA
