The Traditional Tree Initiative
Species Profiles for Pacific Island Agroforestry 2003-2005
An invitation to prospective sponsors

This project presents sponsors with a unique opportunity to support traditional cultures while enhancing the ecological and economic viability of land use systems.

There are many questions that farmers, ranchers, landscapers, and landholders must have answered in order to bring native and traditional tree species back into active use. The Species Profiles will be unprecedented in the practical, user-friendly, and readily accessible information they provide to answer this need.

Community benefits

  • Perpetuating ecologically and culturally vital tree species
  • Facilitating the cultural and economic uses of traditional and native trees
  • Strengthening sustainable development and economic diversification
  • Fostering the use of locally appropriate, time-tested tree species (as opposed to unproven and potentially invasive exotics)
  • Empowering readers to successfully re-establish local tree favorites

Benefits of co-sponsoring

This educational publication will generate more community goodwill for the sponsor throughout the Pacific Islands and expand the sponsor’s ongoing educational activities. Sponsorship benefits include (minimum $16,000 contribution):

  • High-visibility acknowledgment on all educational materials produced
  • Wide exposure in print, CD, e-mail and internet
  • Demonstration of sponsoring organizations’ ongoing commitment to culturally and environmentally sensitive development
  • Access to post educational materials produced on sponsor’s web site

Note: Smaller contributions (less than $16,000) are also welcome. If a smaller contribution is made, proportional benefits will apply.
