The Plant Division includes four sections: Insect Pest Prevention & Management, Native Plant Conservation, Noxious Weed Control, and Nursery & Christmas Tree. The Division's programs protect Oregon's agricultural industries and natural environment from harmful plant pests, diseases and noxious weeds; enhance the value and marketability of exported nursery stock, Christmas trees, seeds and other agricultural products; and further the conservation of threatened and endangered plants.

Christmas Tree Shipping
Shipping Christmas trees to other states and countries requires inspection and certification. Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) horticulturists provide these services. Contact ODA to arrange field inspections prior to harvest and certification, please provide at least five days notice before the actual shipping date when requesting certificates. For a specific country shipping requirements or to request an inspection, contact the ODA at 503-986-4644.

Oregon nursery licenses
A license issued by the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) is required by anyone operating as a grower or dealer of nursery stock in Oregon. The department offers three different types of nursery licenses, including one for dealers, one for greenhouse growers of herbaceous plants, and one for wholesale growers and collectors of native plants. Exceptions include businesses whose total sales do not exceed $250 per fiscal year and/or landscaping businesses or brokers that do not grow or store live plant material for more than one year.

Oregon State Weed Board Grant Program
Now accepting applications for the 19th grant cycle. Deadline is December 3, 2008. Awards will be decided at the Oregon State Weed Board meeting February 19 & 20, 2009. Results will be available to applicants via email (sbrubake@oda.state.or.us) or phone (503-986-4622) on February 23, 2009.
