About Minnesota Sea Grant
Many of our efforts are focused on Lake Superior and its shores.
With nearly 12,000 lakes and a coast on the world's largest body of fresh water, Minnesota possesses a bounty of aquatic and coastal resources. Through scientific research and public education programs, Minnesota Sea Grant works to enhance Minnesota’s coastal environment and economy.
Our Strategy

Our Mission
To facilitate interaction among the public and scientists to enhance communities, the environment and economies along Lake Superior and Minnesota's inland waters by identifying information needs, fostering research, and communicating results.
Sea Grant Network
Minnesota Sea Grant is an award-winning program with a long history of achievements. It is part of a network linked by the National Sea Grant Program, which supports 30 similar programs in coastal states throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. It receives funding through the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA – Office of Oceanic and Atmospheric Research) and the University of Minnesota. The program participates in many partnerships on local, regional, and national levels.
