Capabilities

NREL's building research area has a diverse team of engineers and building scientists that have research expertise in integrated system design and the use of advanced building technologies, including electrochromic windows, photovoltaic systems, and building optimization using computer simulation. We work with building industry professionals such as home builders and developers, architects, engineers, and private organizations and to provide technical assistance, tools, and information to help them to optimize building energy performance. Our engineers and scientists employ state-of-the-art laboratory capabilities and techniques to help industry with prototype development and to move technologies into the marketplace. All our laboratory facilities offer unique testing and validation equipment. In addition, our modeling and analysis capabilities and tools help building industry professionals make intelligent choices about efficient strategies to advance building technologies.
