CPSC Recall Alert: September 3, 2008

 

Pendants and Candle Charms Recalled Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

 

Sold at: Gift shops nationwide from February 2004 through February 2008 for between $6 and $8 for the pendants and between $12 and $15 for the charms with candles.

 

Hazard: The recalled metal pendants and charms contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

 

Description: The recalled pewter pendants were sold in a collection of 12 pendants. The pendants were sold separately and on candles of various colors and scents.

Bonne Bell Recalls Children's Cosmetics Accessory Bags Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

 

Sold at: Retail stores nationwide and Bonne Bell's Web site from September 2007 through August 2008 for about $9.

 

Hazard: The metal clasps on the handle of the accessory bags contain excessive levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested and can cause adverse health effects.

 

Description: The recalled accessory bags are made of plastic and have a zipper and carrying handle. The bags come with an assortment of cosmetic products, which are not part of this recall. The model name and UPC numbers are located on the hangtag. The following recalled model names and UPC numbers are involved in this recall:

Pacific Science Supplies Recalls Magnets Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold through: Distributors nationwide which sell to educational institutions, including colleges, high schools and middle schools. A small number were sold through educational stores nationwide from April 2000 through February 2008 for about $9.

 

Hazard: The paint on the magnets can contain excess levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: Magnets included in the recall:

 

“Large” and “Small” U-shaped Magnets:

These magnets are in the shape of a “U” or horseshoe. One half of each magnet is painted red and is imprinted with the letter “N”; the other half is painted blue, and is imprinted with the letter “S”.


 

"Large" and "Miniature" Bar Magnets:

These magnets are in the shape of a bar. The magnets are painted half red and half white. The red half is imprinted with the letter "N" and the white half is imprinted with the letter "S".


 

Magnet Sets:

This set contains a small u-shaped magnet, two small bar magnets, and two small compasses. All magnets are painted half red and half white. The red half is imprinted with the letter "N" and the white half is imprinted with the letter "S". The package is labeled "Magnets & Compasses."


 

Magnet Needle Sets:

This set contains 10 sets of small cone-shape bases and elongated-diamond-shaped magnets which can be fastened into the bases. The magnets are painted half red and half white.


 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using these recalled magnets and contact the firm to receive a free replacement.

Horseshoe Magnets Recalled by Dowling Magnets Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Specialty retail stores and educational supply distributors nationwide from March 2003 through April 2008 for about $10.

 

Hazard: The plastic coating on the magnets contains excessive levels of lead, which violates the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: This recall involves the Classic Horseshoe Magnets. The 6-inch tall horseshoe magnet has a red plastic coating on the 'handle' end. Each 'foot' of the magnet has an engraved 'S' or and 'N.'

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the classic horseshoe magnets away from children and contact Dowling Magnets to receive a free replacement horseshoe magnet.

Children's Jewelry Recalled by Bead Bazaar USA Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

 

Sold at: Retailers nationwide from February 2006 through June 2008 for about $6.

 

Hazard: The children's jewelry could contain high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

 

Description: This recall involves 'It's a Girl Thing' metal necklaces, bracelets, and phone charms. The jewelry features a variety of charms including flowers, shoes, letters and butterflies.

 

'It's a Girl Thing' is printed on the packaging along with the UPC numbers 633870018419 (bracelet), 633870018426 (necklace), and 633870018433 (phone charm).

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled jewelry away from children and return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Wal-Mart Recalls Additional Charm Key Chains Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

 

Sold at: Wal-Mart stores nationwide from April 2005 through June 2008 for between $ .50 and $6.

 

Hazard: The charms on the key chain can contain high levels of lead, which is toxic if ingested and can cause adverse health effects.

 

Description: The recalled key chains have several charms including a button, clover, leaf, and heart. The charms hang from a silver-colored chain. The words 'Hip charm' and the following UPC numbers are printed on the products packaging: 03156811032, 03156811029, 03156811019, 03156811016, 03156811018, 03156811028, and 03156811030.

 

Remedy: Consumers should not allow children to handle the key chain and return it to any Wal-Mart store for a full refund.

The Children's Place Recalls Camouflage Pajama Sets Due to Excessive Lead

 

Sold exclusively at: The Children's Place stores nationwide and www.childrensplace.com from December 2006 to January 2008 for between $15 and $17.

 

Hazard: The screen print on the shirt contains excess levels of lead.

 

Description: This recall involves long- and short-sleeved pajama sets. The sets have a blue shirt with a red screen print that reads 'Athletics 90' and coordinating camouflage pants. The pajama sets were sold in boys' sizes XXS (2/3) to XL (14).

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the pajama sets from children and return them to any The Children's Place store for a full refund.

Floppy Friends Horse Toys Recalled by Toy Investments Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Hobby stores, gas stations, gift shops and toy stores nationwide from February 2008 through April 2008 for about $4.

 

Hazard: Surface paint on the toy horse contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: The recalled horse toy has a push up base. When the base is pushed up, the toy horse is floppy. When released, the toy horse stands up straight. The horse is brown and white and the base is green with orange, red flowers and dark blue flowers.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and return it to the store where purchased for a full refund.

Description: The paint brushes were sold in multi-color packages of four. Only the yellow brushes are included in the recall. The paint brushes have a rounded cylinder body with tan bristle tip brushes and measure about 4 inches in height.

Hazard: The paint on the pearl beads in the flowers of the wands contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: The recalled Tinker Bell wands are green and light up and sound when a button in the handle is pressed. The top of the wand has white plastic flowers, a green bow, and a pin with Tinker Bell's face on it.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled toy away from children and return it to a Disney Store for a full refund.

Hazard: Surface paint on the recalled shaker guiro instrument contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: The recalled shaker guiro is a ridged, cylinder-shaped percussion instrument that contains beads and is played by scraping a stick along the surface. The shaker guiro measures about 2' wide x 5' long. One end of the instrument is painted red and the other end is painted blue. The center section and stick are natural wood. 'Basic Beat 5' Guiro/Shaker,' 'SHBB5,' and 'Recommended for Ages 6+' are printed on the packaging.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled shaker guiro instrument away from children and contact West Music to arrange to receive a replacement instrument.

Disney Store Recalls Pirates of the Caribbean Sleeping Bags Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold exclusively at: Disney stores nationwide from April 2007 through October 2007 for about $25.

 

Hazard: The surface paint on the sleeping bag's zipper pull contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: The recalled Pirates of the Caribbean sleeping bags have a cartoon pirate design of Davey Jones and Jack Sparrow on the front. Style number F1652B0003 is printed on the logo label inside the sleeping bags. The sleeping bag with the skull art design is not included in this recall.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled sleeping bags away from children and return them to any Disney Store for a full refund.

Master Toys & Novelties Inc. Recalls Little Rider Toys Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Dollar and discount stores nationwide from April 2007 through January 2008 for between $5 and $7.

 

Hazard: Surface paint on the shoe and pants of the rider toy contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: This recall includes a battery operated cowboy riding a horse toy. The model number 8610B is located on the product packaging. The horse and rider together measure about 8.5 inches in height by 7.5 inches in length. The rider is wearing blue pants and a red shirt and the horse is brown. Only Little Rider Toys with UPC code 603678086101 printed on the product packaging are included in the recall.

Children's Storage Bins Sold at Lowe's Stores Recalled Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Lowe's retail outlets nationwide from March 2007 through February 2008 for about $6.

 

Hazard: Surface paint on the storage bins could contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: The recalled storage bins are wooden with scalloped edges and were sold in pastel green or pink. Item number 226782 (pastel green storage bin) or 226781 (pink storage bin) is located on the bottom of the storage bin. No other storage bins or colors are included in this recall.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take the recalled storage bins away from children and return them to any Lowe's store for a full refund.

CPSC Recall Alert: April 29, 2008

 

Nintendo Recalls Lapel Pins Due to Risk of Lead Exposure

 

Sold at: Nintendo stores in Redmond, Washington and New York, NY between April 2004 and November 2007 for between $1.50 and $4.

 

The recalled lapel pins were also distributed to employees at electronics and game stores nationwide from April 2004 through November 2007.

 

Hazard: The metal lapel pin contains high levels of lead. Lead is toxic if ingested by young children and can cause adverse health effects.

 

Description: The recalled lapel pins have images depicting 12 video game characters. The lapel pins vary in size, ranging from 1- to 2- inches in height.

 

The characters Diddy Kong, Donkey Kong, Kirby, Mario, Mario Kart, Pikachu, Princess Peach, Samus, Starfox, Waluigi and Wario were sold individually. Mario, Princess Peach and Samus were also sold as a set.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop wearing the lapel pins and contact Nintendo to receive a free replacement lapel pin.

Description: The recalled key chain has several charms including a button, clover, leaf, heart and a sand dollar. The charms hang from a silver-colored chain. The words 'Hip charm' and UPC (#31568 11017) are printed on the product's packaging.

Hazard: The gray surface paint on the teeth contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

 

Description: This recall involves a 2-pack fake Hillbilly Teeth with item # 2657. The item number is printed on the packaging. The gums are brown and the teeth are yellow.

Hazard: The seasonal writing pens' surface coating contains high levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

OKK Trading Recalls Toy Robots Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Dollar stores nationwide from October 2007 through December 2007 for about $1.

 

Hazard: Surface paints on the toys contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No injuries or illnesses reported.

Description: The recalled robot toys were sold as a four piece set with various colored robots each carrying a gun in one hand and a shield in the other. 'Interchange Robot' is printed on the outside packaging of the product.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately take these robot toys away from children and return the toys to the store where purchased for a refund.

Children's 'Main Street Drag' Sunglasses Recalled by StyleMark Due to Violation of Lead Paint Standard

 

Sold at: Payless, Walgreen's, Academy Sports, and CVS stores nationwide from October 2007 through March 2008 for between $6 and $9.

 

Hazard: Surface paint in the orange lettering on the temples of the sunglasses contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. No injuries or illnesses reported.

 

 

Description: The recalled children's sunglasses have Main Street Drag characters on the bottom of one lens. Raja Foods Issues Nationwide Recall on SWAD BRAND ABIL, GULAL, KANKU, KUM KUM, LAGAN SAMAGRI, AND POOJA SAMAGRI Containing High Levels of Lead

 

Distributed through:  These products were distributed through Indian grocery stores in Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Washington and Wisconsin.

 

Hazard:  Product contains high levels of lead. Lead is very toxic and dangerous to humans, especially children, women of childbearing age, pregnant women and their unborn children. Although people with lead in their blood often do not exhibit the symptoms of lead toxicity, such symptoms include the following: stomach aches, colic, nausea, vomiting, abnormal irritability, and insomnia. Lead can also permanently damage the central nervous system, resulting in learning difficulties in school children as well as cause other long-term health problems.

 

Description: These products are used in India for religious purposes and are intended to be placed on the skin or hair. Although the product was not intended to be sold for food use, its labeling may be confusing and may imply it may be used as food. The ABIL, GULAL, KANKU,and KUM KUM product is distributed in a 3.5 oz. (100 g) plastic bag with a front label stating "SWAD BEST TASTE IN TOWN SINDOOR", "FOR RECIPE IDEAS VISIT OUR WEBSITE: WWW.RAJAFOODS.COM", and "PRODUCT OF INDIA." The LAGAN SAMAGRI and POOJA SAMAGRI product is distributed in plastic bins with a front label stating "SWAD BEST TASTE IN TOWN POOJA SAMAGRI" SWAD BEST TASTE IN TOWN LAGAN SAMAGRI" The back label states "Imported and Distributed by: Raja Foods, 8110, N. St. Louis Avenue, Skokie, ILL 60076", and a sticker stating "NONEDIBLE".  External use of the product does not pose a health hazard.

 

Remedy: Consumers who have purchased any of these products are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Description: The recalled Tinker Bell lamp has model 'Tinker Bell Lamp' printed on the bottom of the lamp. The lamp has a sculpted Tinker Bell in a flower garden with an animation of Tinker Bell swaying back and forth while music plays when the light switch or demo button is depressed.

 

Remedy: Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled lamps and return them to the store where purchased for a refund or contact the firm to receive a Kash N' Gold merchandise credit.
