Conserve Natural Resources

How to create a bountiful garden with less water and more wildlife habitat.

Even as active gardeners and shapers of the landscape, our stewardship of natural resources can include:

  • Use of mulch to reduce the need for irrigation. Improve the soil with compost which increases water retention.
  • Use of water saving techniques such as drip irrigation or soaker hoses to minimize runoff and evaporation. Select pervious paving materials such as gravel to permit rainwater to sink in to recharge groundwater.
  • Select native perennials, shrubs and trees that will feed and shelter birds and insects.
