Chesapeake Executive Council to Meet Thursday, Nov. 20
November 2008 --The Chesapeake Executive Council will review the past year’s efforts by the Bay Program partnership to restore the Chesapeake Bay and establish a new agenda for 2009 at its annual meeting on Thursday, Nov. 20 at Union Station in Washington, D.C.
Among the topics scheduled to be discussed by the Executive Council are:
- Accelerating the pace of restoration of the Bay and its watershed.
- Development of a federal “pollution budget,” or TMDL (total maximum daily load).
- Increasing the Bay Program partnership’s accountability.
- The Bay region’s potential for production and use of next-generation biofuels.
- Seeking increased federal government support for restoration.
The meeting will be held in Union Station’s Columbus Club. At 12:30 p.m., there will be presentations on 2008 restoration efforts, the Chesapeake TMDL and biofuels. At 2 p.m., the Executive Council will hold a news conference.
All attendees are encouraged to use public transportation (Metro or train) or carpool to Union Station.
The Executive Council consists of the governors of Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania; the mayor of Washington, D.C.; the chair of the Chesapeake Bay Commission, a tri-state legislative body; and the administrator of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Representatives from Delaware, New York, West Virginia and the U.S. Department of Agriculture also participate in Executive Council meetings.
