Laboratory employees can purchase an extra copy or copies of Science in the National Interest - Photographs Celebrating Six Decades of Excellence, on Thursday at the Otowi Building at Technical Area 3.
The 225-page coffee table book was published by the University of California to commemorate UC's 63-year management of the Laboratory.
The book includes a forward from UC President Robert Dynes, a message from former Laboratory Director Bob Kuckuck, and has hundreds of images - black and white and color - of historical events at the Laboratory. The book is broken down by decade and captions accompany the photos.
"It's a great holiday gift and they now are collectors items," said Debbi Wersonick of the Community Programs (CPO) Office, which along with the Laboratory Foundation is selling the books from 11 a.m. to 1:45 p.m. in the lobby of the Otowi Building cafeteria.
The books are $25 each and all proceeds go to the Los Alamos Employees' Scholarship Fund. Cash, personal checks made out to the Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation or credit cards are accepted.
Employees who want to reserve a copy of the book can contact Wersonick at 7-7870 or sonic@lanl.gov by electronic mail and then plan on picking up their book on Thursday. Any books remaining after Thursday can be purchased at the Laboratory Foundation Office, 1302 Calle de la Merced, Suite A, in EspaƱola.
