Construction to impact commuter bus service pick up location near TA-3

By Steve Sandoval

October 18, 2005

Laboratory personnel who use the All Aboard America commuter bus service from Española, Santa Fe and Albuquerque will notice some changes around the pick up and drop off area east of Technical Area 3.

All Aboard America park and ride buses pick up and drop off Laboratory workers south of East Jemez Road and east of Diamond Drive at a lot near Technical Area 3. However, on Monday the Lab began work in this area to accommodate the start of construction of the security perimeter project. The work will occur over a two-to-three-week period, said Mark Harris of Deployed Services (PM-DS).

Where passengers disembark and board buses remains the same, Harris explained, but what will change is the parking next to the park and ride area, the pedestrian walkways, the bus and shuttle exit paths, and the parking lot entrance and exit road.

Parking directly next to the park and ride area is closed. Parking remains available west and southwest of the park and ride area. Pedestrian walkways into and out of the park and ride area are being repainted. In addition, the bus and shuttle exit path will be shifted to the west by repainting road striping and relocating vehicle barriers, said Harris. And the parking lot entrance and exit path is being shifted southward. New pavement will be placed and new road striping will be painted to indicate the new exit and entrance paths, he added.

Barrier tape, orange barrels and signs are in place to alert Lab personnel to the work. Pedestrians are asked to stay out of the work area.

Lab personnel and others who catch the bus in downtown Los Alamos near Mesa Public Library aren't affected.

Rider fares are $2 each way between Santa Fe, Los Alamos and Española and $4 each way between Los Alamos and Albuquerque. All Aboard America operates the commuter bus service for the New Mexico Transportation Department.
