LANSCE not affected
A roadway improvement project on three miles of East Jemez Road (the truck route) is scheduled to begin Thursday. KSL Services is applying an open graded friction course sealant that is designed to improve traction while also reducing roadway noise, explained Crystal Rodarte Romero of Utilities and Infrastructure (FM-UI).
The work will be done on East Jemez Road from near Royal Crest Mobile Home park east to where a series of curves in the road end, east of the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) at Technical Area 53, said Rodarte Romero.
Signs and other traffic control devices will be in place to direct motorists through the work area, and temporary reflective markers will be installed to delineate driving traffic lanes during construction until permanent striping can be installed. Vehicle traffic will be narrowed to one lane in each direction through the work area. The work is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and should be completed by early next week, weather permitting.
Rodarte Romero said access to LANSCE shouldn't be affected because work at the entrance to LANSCE is scheduled to be done this weekend.
