UC vice president named new UC Irvine chancellor

June 10, 2005

Michael Drake is the new chancellor of the University of California's Irvine campus.

Acting on the recommendation of President Robert Dynes, the UC Board of Regents appointed Drake the fifth chancellor of UC, Irvine. Drake is a longtime UC faculty member and administrator, and current UC vice president for health affairs.

Effective July 1, Drake succeeds Ralph Cicerone, who was elected president of the National Academy of Sciences in Washington, D.C.
