Lab issuing new private parking passes for TA-3

By Kathy Delucas

May 12, 2005

New private vehicle passes that allow employees to park behind the fence near the Administration Building at Technical Area 3 are now being distributed.

There will be slight modifications to the program this year. Passes will be distributed to the Director's Office and Associate Director's offices for distribution throughout their directorates, putting control of the passes in the hands of the ADs, according to Pat Nelson of Space Management and Facility Planning (SSMO-SMFP). Laboratory personnel requiring the private vehicle passes will have to request them through the appropriate channels within their AD. The passes are good for TA-3 only.

The new passes become effective May 23, allowing a couple of weeks overlap where the current and new passes will be accepted at guard stations. The current private vehicle passes will not be honored beginning June 6.

In addition to the distribution changes, there will be changes in the types of private vehicle passes. Two types of passes will be issued. A green pass will allow parking immediately behind the Administration Building. The green passes are primarily for occupants of the Administration Building that come and go throughout the day and need readily accessible parking. There also will be "yellow" passes that will be for the overflow parking lot, the old high occupancy vehicle lot, behind Building 216 and adjacent to the Chemistry and Metallurgy Research Building. The yellow passes will be limited to four-hour parking and are only for the lot behind Building 216 as designated by the signs. Lab workers with green parking passes may use either the lot directly behind the Administration Building or the lot behind Building 216 and may park there all day.

Requests for passes should be channeled through associate director-level offices. Nelson said SSMO-SMFP will not be distributing passes to individuals. Requests for more passes should be directed to SSMO-SMFP and must be approved by the Associate Director for Security and Facility Operations (ADSFO).
