Reminder on deliveries to Lab offices

May 5, 2005

It's nice to remember moms, especially since Sunday is Mother's Day. But Laboratory personnel are reminded that there are regulations governing deliveries to Lab offices.

Flowers shouldn't be sent to the SM-30 Warehouse at Technical Area 3 for delivery to Lab offices. Each year on Mother's Day, the Customer Service Center at the warehouse receives flower arrangements, stuffed animals, candy and other gifts for mothers, according to the Supply Chain Management (SUP) and Security and Safeguards (S) divisions. It is a violation of the Lab's government resources policy for mail room workers to deliver flowers to Lab offices. Lab policy defines government resources as "property, services, and the paid work time of Laboratory personnel" and states that government resources must only be used for official Laboratory business. Employees should make arrangements to meet flower/gift delivery drivers outside guard posts or plan to pick up gifts on their own time.

For more information on allowable use of government resources, see AM 701 "Government Resources" and Director's Instruction 05-002 "Incidental Use of Government Property."

For questions about the resources policy, contact a property administrator or Property Management (SUP-2) at 7-6122.

For assistance regarding guard post access or other security questions, contact the S Division help desk at 5-2002 or write to security@lanl.gov by electronic mail.
