A public meeting on the Laboratory’s Area G radioactive waste disposal area is scheduled for Tuesday evening in Santa Fe.
The meeting is scheduled for 4 to 9 p.m., in the Jemez Complex of Santa Fe Community College, 6401 S. Richards Ave. The meeting is free and open to the public. The meeting is sponsored by the Northern New Mexico Citizens’ Advisory Board to the Department of Energy.
Area G at Technical Area 54 covers about 63 acres with above- and below-ground storage of radioactive waste, much of which is slated for shipment to the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad.
Representatives from the Laboratory, DOE, the Environmental Protection Agency, the New Mexico Environment Department, the University of California, San Ildefonso Pueblo and the Santa Fe group Concerned Citizens for Nuclear Safety, are scheduled to participate in discussions. The public also will have an opportunity to ask questions.
