My LANL available to all Lab employees

April 6, 2005

My LANL, a personalized Web portal that pulls information from various Lab databases is now available to all Laboratory employees and subcontract personnel. It previously was reserved for managers. My LANL for employees offers single sign-on and pass through to several Labwide systems, such as the Travel System and Time and Effort. Providing convenient employee access to their personnel and administrative request information, the My LANL Web page is maintained by the Information Management (IM) Division and the Chief Information Officer (CIO) on behalf of the Enterprise Project.

Features of My LANL for employees include:

- view and edit your location and phone
- receive alerts such as:
o authorities expiring
o training expiring
o training incomplete/expired
o travel expense claim due
- look at work reports (authorities, badge and access status, property, software licenses, training, travel)
- examine personal reports (e.g., attendance, emergency contacts, vacation/sick, year-to-date payroll)
- view purchasing/property reports
- check purchase requests / purchase order status.

“This is just a start. We have many ideas for things to help employees in addition to managers and we are looking for more ideas,” said Kym Kittell of Advanced Information and Business Application Development (IM-8).

To access My LANL:

1. Open a browser window
- IE, Mozilla or Netscape on a PC
- Mozilla or Safari on a Mac
- Mozilla on Unix/Linux
FYI, on a Mac, Mozilla and Safari will download some files instead of
opening or running them.
2. Go to http://my.lanl.gov and sign in with Z number and Cryptocard. (Link also on Lab Home Page under Organization).

To use the employee features:

1. Confirm your work location and phone are correct (upper right corner) and, if necessary, edit them.
2. Look to see if you have any of the following alerts and, if so, click on the link:
- Authorities expiring
- Training expiring
- Training incomplete/expired
- Travel expense claim due

Employees who don't have any alerts, will see the message "No employee alerts at this time." FYI, the Questions text to the right of Tasks and Reminders lists everything an employee and manager might see in this section.
3. Click on the links in My Work Reports and My Personal Reports.
4. Click on the Purchasing tab and the links under Top Reports for Employees.
5. If an employee has previously submitted a purchase request that has had a change in status within the last 30 days, look for the PR/PO status portlet (right column on Purchasing tab).

Anyone who can access the Data Warehouse also will be able to access My LANL.
