LANS, LLC issues final Request for Proposal

April 21, 2008

Los Alamos Science Complex

Los Alamos National Security, LLC has issued the final Request for Proposal for the proposed Los Alamos Science Complex.

The Science Complex is expected to provide modern facilities for a wide range of science, technology, and engineering capabilities necessary to support both National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and non-NNSA missions, and to facilitate removal of aging and deteriorating facilities at the Laboratory. Facility design will be flexible and open, incorporating sustainable design principles to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold certification and obtain an Energy Star label.

The Laboratory plans to house about 1,600 workers in the proposed complex’s two buildings with an adjacent parking garage at Technical Area 62 NW, located west of the Laboratory’s main technical area.

The vision for the proposed Science Complex is to provide the Laboratory and NNSA a premier 21st century office and laboratory complex that provides an aesthetic and functional workspace that will offer an easy to use, cost-effective and productive work environment.

“The Science Complex is a key component of the Laboratory’s 12 goals and our vision for the future of science at Los Alamos National Laboratory,” Director Michael Anastasio said. “In addition, it also promotes our complementary goal for a modern infrastructure which, of course, enables world class science and technology.”

“I am extremely excited that we are moving forward with the proposed Science Complex,” said Terry Wallace, Principal Associate Director for Science, Technology, and Engineering (PADSTE). “It is important to the Laboratory by allowing us to be the premier national security science laboratory and helping [Los Alamos] realize its vision as a capabilities-based organization.”

Responses are due by the end of the workday June 16.
