Laboratory’s protective force gets name change

By Jaclyn Jon Valdez

January 16, 2008

Protection Technology Los Alamos (PTLA), the Laboratory’s protective force subcontract company, has a new name and operator. It is now SOC Los Alamos, part of a new company SOC LLC.

Day & Zimmermann, PTLA’s parent company, recently announced that several of its government-services businesses have combined with Special Operations Consulting-Security Management Group (SOC-SMG), a global leader in full-service security management, to form SOC LLC (note that SOC is not an acronym; each letter is pronounced).

The new company, which will be headquartered in Minden, Nevada, combines SOC-SMG and its training arm, HD-SOC, with Day & Zimmermann’s Government Security, Federal Services, and Hawthorne business units.

PTLA’s current management team will remain in place, and over time, employees will see the SOC Los Alamos insignia replace the PTLA brand on uniforms and other protective force materials.

“SOC specializes in high-end security, and our goal is to deliver better capability and value for our customers,” said Ken Freeman, SOC Los Alamos general manager.
