Tapping Laboratory expertise, technical assistance

"This is a great win for all of us, [the Lab, TSAY, Ohkay Owingeh and San Ildefonso Pueblo,]" Laboratory Director Michael Anastasio said Wednesday at a signing ceremony for a new mentor-protégé agreement. "I look forward to have this opportunity to build on our relationship."

The agreement between Los Alamos National Security, LLC and TSAY Construction & Services is designed to help TSAY improve its ability to compete for contracts across the Department of Energy complex. Ohkay Owingeh, which owns and operates TSAY Construction & Services, will, in addition, initiate a separate agreement with San Ildefonso Pueblo that provides an opportunity to build San Ildefonso’s business capacity.

New Mexico Senator Pete Domenici lauded the agreement, adding that he is proud of the efforts by the new management team to help improve the economic viability of the pueblos and other Northern New Mexico businesses.

"This protégé program can work to further build up the region's economy, support schools and improve local services," said Domenici.

"This partnership is a great example of how [the Laboratory] is joining forces with this growing Ohkay Owingeh-owned business to create good jobs in the state. Under this proposal, LANL will provide technical expertise that will allow TSAY to expand is contracting capability," New Mexico Senator Jeff Bingaman said. "I hope this partnership serves as a model for many others like it between the Lab and Northern New Mexico businesses.”

"Our ultimate goal is to help San Ildefonso business and to assist in diversified economic growth,” Ohkay Owingeh Governor Earl Salazar said.

"We are appreciative to be a participant in this agreement and hope we will become as successful as Ohkay Owingeh’s business," added Governor James Mountain of San Ildefonso Pueblo.
