LOS ALAMOS, N.M., May 9, 2007 — Lab's Montoya-Rael also to be recognized

Los Alamos National Laboratory employees for the seventh consecutive year are the largest contributors to the United Way of Santa Fe County's annual giving campaign.

Laboratory employees pledged or donated $165,000 to the United Way of Santa Fe County's 2006 giving campaign. This amount is being matched dollar-for-dollar by Los Alamos National Security, LLC, which operates the Laboratory.

The Laboratory will receive a "Raise the Roof" award at a United Way of Santa Fe County innovation awards reception Thursday evening at La Posada in Santa Fe.

Overall, Los Alamos employees raised $1.5 million in pledges and donations in its most recent United Way giving campaign, which supported United Way of Santa Fe County and United Way of Northern New Mexico. The figure includes a $750,000 match from Los Alamos National Security, LLC.

"Our Los Alamos employees can take pride in this accomplishment," said Lillian Montoya-Rael, director of the Laboratory's Community Programs Office. "Once again, Laboratory personnel have shown through their generosity that their community is important to them and that they are eager to help those around them."

Montoya-Rael also will be given the not-for profit professional of the year award from United Way of Santa Fe County. The award recognizes Montoya-Rael's community service efforts.

"The growing strength of the relationship between the Laboratory and United Way of Santa Fe County is something we're very happy about," said Katherine Freeman, United Way of Santa Fe County president and chief executive officer. "The United Way of Santa Fe County is committed to effecting lasting change and addressing the chronic conditions in our community through innovation."

The 2006 United Way of Santa Fe County campaign goal is $1.2 million. Santa Fe's 2006 campaign continues through June 30.

The Laboratory's 2008 United Way giving campaign is scheduled to begin September 17.
