Site work begins for new LASO Building

By Steve Sandoval

May 1, 2007

Workers this week are installing silt fencing around the perimeter of the site where a new Los Alamos Site Office Building will be constructed. The site is west of the Wellness Center parking lot at Technical Area 3.

Laboratory personnel who run, jog, walk, or cycle in the area near West Jemez Road or on nearby trails west of the Wellness Center should be aware of future construction activity and choose other locations.

JB Henderson is installing fencing around the perimeter work area in advance of construction. Three construction trailers are already on site, and work on the building is scheduled to begin in June and be completed in April 2008, according to Joe Brophy of Weapons Engineering and Physics (PP-WEP), project manager.

SMPC Architects designed the building, which will replace the current LASO facility off Trinity Drive in Los Alamos. The LASO Building is on property owned by Los Alamos County.

More information on the project can be found here. Or contact Brophy at 5-1119 or brophy@lanl.gov by electronic mail.

Brophy said a separate utility extension project already has begun nearby to extend sanitary sewer, water and communications for future Laboratory facilities. These services are being extended from the Bikini Atoll roadway, west through the Wellness Center and SM-38 corridor to the west end of the pavement for the Wellness Center parking lot.
