Certified crop advisers (CCAs) can earn 5 hours of credit, including 2 hours in soil and water management, by attending a special CCA morning session and afternoon field day tour at the Southeast Iowa Research and Demonstration Farm near Crawfordsville on June 28.

The morning session will begin at 9:30 a.m.; Greg Brenneman, ISU Extension ag engineer, will discuss soil drainage research results. Other topics covered in the morning will include surface water quality and the phosphorus index by John Sawyer, ISU Extension agronomist, and a new root rating system for corn rootworms by Jon Tollefson, ISU entomologist. I will be discussing herbicide injury symptoms.

Topics covered on the afternoon tour will include conservation tillage study and season review by Greg Brenneman and Kevin Van Dee, farm superintendent; in-season nitrogen applications to soybean by John Sawyer; new findings on bean leaf beetle and bean pod mottle virus by John Hill, ISU plant pathologist; and nozzle selection for better pesticide performance and reduced drift by Brad Woerner, ISU Extension ag engineer. I will present low-cost alternatives for weed management in corn. Tours will begin at 1:00 p.m.

Registration for certified crop advisers will begin at 9:00 a.m. The registration fee is $50, which includes lunch.
