Twilight tour to feature weed science area

We will host an evening tour of the weed science research and demonstration area on Thursday June 29 at the Northern Research and Demonstration Farm at Kanawha. The program will begin at 6:30 p.m.

The weed science area features approximately 100 different herbicide treatments in corn and soybeans. Some of the topics of this year's research are evaluating timing of glyphosate applications in corn and soybeans and the effect on crop yield, comparing preemergence products, and evaluating different combinations of sprayer application rates and nozzle types. A weed garden also is available to assist growers in weed identification.

The tour has been approved for 1.5 continuing education credits in pest management for the certified crop advisor program.

The Northern Research Farm is located on the southwestern edge of Kanawha on county road R-35. Questions about the tour should be directed to your county extension office or to extension weed science at 515-294-1923.
