Annual Status Report Remediation Database - 2003 Update

The Annual Status Report (ASR) Remediation Database documents the status and achievements, as of March 2003, of 1,760 treatment technology applications for soil, other solid wastes, and groundwater at Superfund sites.

Data Sources - The data were gathered from:
  • Superfund Records of Decision (RODs), ROD Amendments, and Explanations of Significant Difference (ESDs) from fiscal year (FY) 1982-2002
  • Closeout Reports (CORs) from FY 1983-2002
  • Project managers at Superfund Remedial Action sites

  • Content - The database contains data on:
  • In situ and ex situ treatment technologies for sources (e.g., soil, sludge, sediment, other solid-matrix wastes, and non-aqueous phase liquids [NAPL])
  • In situ groundwater treatment technologies
  • Pump and treat (P&T) for groundwater
  • Groundwater containment using vertical engineered barriers (VEBs)

  • Project Information - For each project, the database includes information on:
  • Technology applied
  • Technology performance data (where available)
  • Media and contaminants treated or contained
  • Site contacts
  • Implementation status
  • Other project-specific information

  • Search Capabilities - The database is searchable by:
  • Site name
  • Technology
  • Site identification number (CERCLIS ID)
  • Contaminant
  • State
  • Media

  • New and Updated Information - This release of the ASR Remediation Database:
  • Updates information on 842 existing projects
  • Adds 175 new source control and in situ groundwater treatment projects
  • Expands the database to include information about 743 P&T projects
  • Gives more technology-specific information, including:

  •       - species used for phytoremediation projects
          - chemicals used for chemical treatments
          - barrier configuration and reactive material employed in permeable reactive barriers The Annual Status Report - This database provides the detailed information supporting the report Treatment Technologies for Site Cleanup: Annual Status Report (Eleventh Edition), which is scheduled for publication in November, 2003.

The database on this web site provides the detailed information that supports the document "Treatment Technologies for Site Cleanup: Annual Status Report" (the ASR) now in its 10th edition. This database will be updated with new information as future editions of the ASR are published. The next database update is expected in early 2003, and will include new information from FY 2000, 2001, and 2002 RODs as well as updates to the projects in the current version of the database.

    EPA REACH IT

The information contained in the ASR Remediation Database is a subset of the information contained on EPA REACH IT. EPA REACH IT is a system that lets environmental professionals use the power of the Internet to search, view, download, and print information about innovative remediation and characterization technologies.

EPA REACH IT combines information submitted by technology service providers with information from EPA, the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), and state project mangers about sites at which innovative technologies are being deployed. Together, these sources provide up-to-date information, about technologies you can use to characterize or remediate a site, sites at which those technologies are being used, and the service providers that offer them.
