Text Size

If you prefer larger text, we offer several tips below for the browsers most frequently used on this site. These tips do not cover all means available to control the appearance of web pages (e.g. they do not address options at the operating system level). However, these tips do offer several ways to easily exercise more control of the display of many web pages including those on Ecology's site.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x

See Tools / Internet Options / Accessibility and check "Ignore font sizes specified on Web pages".

For further control of text size, see View / Text Size.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.x

Same as described above for IE 6.x.

Mozilla and Netscape Navigator 7.x

See View / Text Zoom and select "Larger", or press "Ctrl  +",

or

See View / Text Zoom and select a larger size (e.g. 120%, 150%, or ...),

or

See Edit / Preferences / Appearance / Fonts and select desired size for "Minimum font size".

Netscape Navigator 4.x

(Note: Netscape Navigator 4.x provides no means for users to control text sizes on pages using style sheets and text sizes specified in pixels.  If you are using Netscape Navigator 4.x and find it difficult to read the pages on this site (and presumably other sites), we suggest that you upgrade your browser.)

Please note that the above effects will continue to be applied to all pages viewed in your browser until changed. On some sites several of the above options may have little or no effect depending on the way the pages are coded.

PDF Documents

A number of documents on Ecology's site are presented in PDF format. These documents are commonly viewed in Adobe Reader which allows users to "magnify" the page as described below.

Adobe Reader

Click on the "Zoom In" tool (the magnifying glass icon on the tool bar) and then click on the document one or more times to increase the font size. Note: This effect does not persist across different PDF documents.

If you want to change the way that Adobe Reader opens all documents, please see File / Preferences / General / Magnification.
