Exhibits

Art and flowers deserve to be together. The Wildflower Center hosts many exhibits featuring the work of Central Texas artists and photographers, as well as the work of prominent nature artists from around the world.

Barry George Sculptures

October 17 through January
Austin based Barry George has been welding sculpture birds out of garden tools and bicycle forks since 1987 and has expanded his body of work over the years to include various animal and human forms, many being politically expressive. For his show at the Wildflower Center, pieces have been chosen and specially created to touch on themes of nature and figure. Although still drawn to the found object, he now incorporates forged elements using blacksmithing techniques learned in Antigua, Guatemala in 1992. Many of the pieces you see on display are interactive kinetic works and are meant to be touched and gently manipulated by the viewer.

Keith Steber: Painting

January 10 through March 8
Long road trips and a study of the anatomy of wildflowers preceded Keith Steber’s creation of these outstanding mixed media works appearing at the Wildflower Center for a limited time. Using a combination of pen, ink, charcoal and oil paints, Steber captures the essence of our beloved wildflowers, providing the viewer the happy and colorful anticipation of spring while Texas plants are still dormant.

Barbara Irwin: Found Object Sculptures

January 10 through March 8
Barbara Irwin’s sculptures always bring second looks, smiles and wonder. Irwin’s talent for finding, resurrecting and re-combining discarded flotsam and jetsom yields flowers and plants like you’ve never seen before… forcing the viewer to notice shapes and textures in this metallic flora….and to think about the same in the real thing!
