Publications, Forms, Maps

This page is a central access point to DEC's hundreds of publications, to forms needed to apply for DEC permits and other programs, and to maps showing the locations of resources, state recreational areas, regulated facilities and environmental cleanups.

Publications

Printed materials and electronic publications are issued by many DEC program divisions and regional offices. The Publications Locator lists the informational resources DEC has available and tells how to obtain them.

The full-color Conservationist magazine is DEC's premier print publication. This award-winning magazine, available by paid subscription, focuses on New York State's great outdoors and natural resources. The Conservationist is published six times yearly.

Environment DEC is the department's free on-line newsletter covering New York State's environment, natural resources and DEC's environmental quality programs. Email notification is available to alert subscribers as each monthly issue is published.

Environmental Notice Bulletin (ENB) is a statewide compilation of project proposals and department decisions, along with information about permits, State Environmental Quality Review and oil/gas drilling

Forms

Nearly every DEC program uses paper or electronic forms (sometimes both). This website provides a fast and easy way to locate the form you need to apply for a grant or permit or enroll in a DEC program.

Not every form that DEC uses is currently available online, but the most popular forms are available on this website. Many forms are in PDF format and must be printed and submitted on paper. Over time, we hope to add the ability to submit forms online.

Maps

DEC works extensively with geographic information and maps. An increasing amount of this information is available to the public through various online mapping applications, virtual globe data, the geodata inventory, and static maps produced by DEC's programs. The Mapping Gateway page pulls together links to all of these map and geographic data sources in one place.

Freedom of Information Law

Critical to DEC's public information function is Freedom of Information. Under the Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) process, citizens can receive any DEC document or other information upon request, or an explanation of why the document cannot be released, within time limits prescribed in the law.

This website provides detailed information about the process for requesting information under FOIL, along with the deadlines and review requirements as set out in the Freedom of Information Law. Also linked from the Freedom of Information page is a full electronic archive of DEC's FOIL appeal determinations since 2004.
