Looking to hone your wildland weed management skills? Our full-day courses provide expert instruction on core topics for your work. Courses are designed for professional land managers and restoration volunteers — newcomers and old-timers, professionals and committed volunteers alike. And for 2008, we are able to offer discounted rates for restoration volunteers! We are now in our fourth year of offering field courses - learn more about our past courses.

Costs and Registration

Regular fees are $125 (Cal-IPC member)/$145 (Non-member) per course for professionals. This year we are able to offer a discounted rate of $35 per course for restoration volunteers, thanks to special funding. All courses include lunch, snacks and a reference binder. We have received 6.0 hours of "Other" DPR continuing education credits for all Biology & Identification courses, 6.5 hours of "Other" DPR continuing education credits for all Control Methods courses, and have applied for DPR continuing education creidts for all other course. Registration is taken on a space-available basis. Pre-registration is required, as we are not able to handle any payments on the day of the course.

Santa Barbara

April 21 – Biology & Identification
April 22 – Control Methods

Site
Santa Barbara courses will be held at the 5,883-acre Sedgwick Reserve, which includes remarkably diverse vegetation: coast live oak forest, blue oak woodland, valley oak savannah, ceanothus chaparral, coastal sage scrub, grassland, willow riparian forest, and agricultural lands.

Lodging
Limited camping, bunkhouse beds and tent cabin beds are available at Sedgwick Reserve. Facilities are rustic. Contact David Chang for more information. A limited number of hotel rooms at a reduced rate have been reserved at the Royal Scandinavian Inn in Solvang. Contact the Royal Scandinavian Inn directly, prior to April 4, and mention “Cal-IPC Field Course” to receive the reduced rate.

Lake Tahoe courses will be held at the Lake Tahoe Community College Demonstration Garden on the college's 164-acre wooded campus in South Lake Tahoe. The Biology and Identification Course is free to members of the Lake Tahoe Basin Weed Coordinating Group.

Our Oakland mapping course will be held at the East Bay Regional Park District's Trudeau Center in Redwood Regional Park. Redwood Regional Park is a hidden redwood forest overlooking the San Francisco Bay Area.
