Idaho National Laboratory Federal Facility TSCA Cleanup Activities
Overview

Cleanup activities at the US Department of Energy (US DOE) Idaho National Laboratory Federal Facility (INL, EPA RCRA Site ID Number ID4 89000 8952) are the joint responsibility of EPA Region 10 and the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality (IDEQ) under the federal Superfund (CERCLA) program, and the state Hazardous Waste Management Act, and respective implementing regulations. Certain elements of cleanup and waste management activities relating to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) are also regulated by EPA under the Toxic Substances Control Act.

Management of PCBs at the INL Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Plant (AWMTP)

The INL AWMTP requested approval from EPA Region 10 to process for disposal certain transuranic wastes also designated as PCB remediation waste in an application for a risk-based disposal approval (PDF) (19 pp. 103K) dated March 1, 2007. After reviewing the INL’s application, EPA issued the requested approval (PDF) (18 pp. 362K) on June 12, 2007.
